THE SHORT ANSWER
Create work samples that show a real problem, constraints, your decisions, process, output, evidence and reflection. Certificates can support a learning story, but they do not replace demonstrable application or establish capability on their own.
Make the work inspectable
| Element | What to show |
|---|---|
| Problem | The user or business need |
| Constraints | Time, data, access and trade-offs |
| Contribution | What you personally decided and produced |
| Process | Research, alternatives, tools and checks |
| Outcome | Observable result without invented impact |
| Reflection | What failed, changed or remains uncertain |
Use the format that fits the capability
A prototype can demonstrate product reasoning. A short analysis can demonstrate evidence handling. A presentation can demonstrate synthesis and communication. A documented workflow can demonstrate automation and control. Quality and explanatory clarity matter more than volume.
The digital product module can help turn an idea into a testable prototype.
Certificates and capability answer different questions
A certificate may show that someone completed a defined learning activity. It does not by itself show independent performance in a new setting. OECD skills-first work also notes that direct skill signals and formal qualifications can coexist; recognition practices and access remain uneven.
Evidence & context: OECD
Do not inflate the evidence
- Separate individual contribution from team output.
- Label illustrative, classroom and production work.
- Do not invent users, revenue or performance metrics.
- Explain how AI was used and what you verified.
- Protect confidential data and obtain permission before publishing.
